I wanted to be a driver from when ever I can remember… and at 15 much to my fathers disgust I calmly announced that I had secured an apprenticeship at a Scania dealership…
What you perhaps need to understand is my Dad had fought his way up the corporate pole and by sheer hard work had moved into sales management at ICI… culminating in a senior Directorship … not bad for an engine drivers son from Bury…
I was not academic… now do not get me wrong … I was not stupid… I was just Not academic… I could not see the point of learning obscure stuff. I was keen on how things worked, I was keen on making things work, I was good at it, I was also good at measuring people… BUT Algebra, Latin? Honestly?
Anyway to cut a long story short I was persuaded to stay at school for O'levels and A'levels
Then I was forced into college… The only thing they would accept ( My Parents ) was hotel management… ( They visibly shuddered at my exploits as a waiter! But they tolerated my shameful entry to the work place as long as I wasn't getting my hands dirty!
I Loved Getting My Hands Dirty – Blue Collar Millionaires
The Thing is I was getting my hands dirty … I was always under the bonnet of the multitude of cars I owned… tuning tweaking, servicing… I loved it … I was never happier than with a set of sockets under a sports car that was leaking something!
I will not list the cars that passed thro my hands but there were some beauties… ranging from the typical boy racer stuff of escorts, anglias, minis, MG midgets … but there were serious bits of tin as well Like a couple of Sunbeam Tigers, My very first car was a Sunbeam Alpine… I bought it as a write off at 15 years of age , and spent all my spare time re-building it until I was able to pass my driving test in it at 17. My Dad was so impressed at my tenacity that he actually bought me 6 months insurance…
Anyway … I spent 10 years in Hotel management, then I was brought into shop fitting … It was one of those fluke things I knew a boyfriend of a receptionist of mine and we got on well, and one day he suggested that I go and work with him… I haughtily replied that I would not be able to take the drop in salary … even though the life seemed a good one … he showed me a pay slip … yes you see that is what I earn a month ….. Oh Really? said Martin… well that is what I earn in a week… I was off … down to the hardware store came back back … hammer, saw, tape measure, and a good coach or teacher in Martin… I was started as an improver, but with my practical skills set and a good eye I was soon on full money… and revelling in it …
I had The Entrepreneurial Spirit – Blue Collar Millionaires
I Had an entrepreneurial escapade at this point in my life, Martin and I wanted to make more than we could by just getting paid for what we did… so with out a clue about contracting law, employment laws, taxation …anything, we started competing for jobs, and we won them … we eventually had three permanent teams working for us , and we were making very good money… we got sucked into working for one client, and we got stretched on our terms… we were like lambs to the slaughter… we had over draughts going into hundreds of thousands of pounds… our wage bill was in excess of 30 K a week… our terms were stretched from 30 to 60 to 90 to eventually 120 days … contract terms got harder and harder to meet… life got stressful… we had NO Mentor or advisor, no one we could trust, we had no pattern to follow, and no system to work to … we were flying by the seat of our pants and crashing and burning spectacularly…
We Went Bust… personal debts in excess of £250,000 No Bank accounts no cheque books No … well anything…
We Had No Plan And No Mentor – Blue Collar Millionaires
We did not have a plan or any guidance… if we had we would have known two crucial things

Never let other people dictate your terms of business

NO …I went back to hotels… but my heart was just not in it … So I retrained … went back to my roots and get my Heavey Goods Vehicle Licences, And Dangerous Goods Licences…
At Last I Got Into Truck Driving – Blue Collar Millionaires
I went for Dangerous Goods and Tankers for one reason … no one wanted the work , it was dangerous, life threatening, and highly unpleasant working conditions… but you got paid real well … I was putting my life on the line again to get me and my family out the shit again. It worked…
BUT I still had an itch that I wanted to be the one who said when I went to work and what I did and when I did it…
I know a lot of people have these feelings … well I was always looking for the solution… I ran a little agency for drivers .. but I was very wary of getting in too deep with a single customer again.. so I held back.. I knew I needed training or knowledge . I guess I sort of knew that I needed a systemised approach… I could not risk going off flying by the seat of my pants again…
In !992 I found the answer – Blue Collar Millionaires?
NO … MLM Multi Level Marketing… Amway to be precise…
I could not see the flaw I really felt it had merit… and when I asked if the guy thought I could earn 40 quid in the next month he was … well gobsmacked… bear in mind he had just sweated thro a presentation in his best suite in front of a roaring coal fire … showing the room full of cynics how to earn a multiple 6 figure income… and here was a Neanderthal Lorry driver asking if he could make 40 quid ( Pounds) !
Look guys I was serious £40 would have made a huge difference in those days ( would not hurt now if I could do it ever hour … who would sneeze at that? )
Anyway yes I got started … I was in my element, I found the system incredible. logical, the continuing education was a thing so missed in my past, the tapes the books the association the people the upline mentors… all of it was great … Why though was I the only person I could find who saw the benefit?
God it was hard to try and find people who would see the plan and get it long enough to sponsor in. I was doing long days at work and then I would come home have a shower squeeze into my suite and off out to do a plan … The Miles the endless miles the countless times I sponsored people in The excitement … only to turn up a week later to hear those dreaded words … we have been talking to . . .
Any way 8 years and I was doing well … doing better than breaking even … I was making good money … But I still was miles away from quitting my day job…
The SLow Road To Quitsville – Blue Collar Millionaires
Slowly but surely I quit… the gap between plans grew longer, the distances I was prepared to travel shrunk, I got into management mode, sop I was managing the existing groups not putting fresh new blood in… I gradually but eventually quit… It wore me out … I have heard that the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result … Folks you got to change what you are doing IF You Want To Achieve Life Changing Results.

You see I felt all my life that My Uniform was like some super cloak of invisibility… do you know what I mean… like all people saw was my uniform, and they judged me by that …

I was probably over-reacting, carrying a huge chip on my shoulder…
Certainly when I met my current mentors I really felt I had a lot to prove… what actually held me back the most was trying to be what I really wasn't…
